Measure requests for clarification

  1. Clarifications occur when people try to gain a full understanding of another’s viewpoint.
  2. Clarifying is done by:

  3. -asking for elaboration
    -asking for reasons
    -asking a person to repeat
    -paraphrasing
    -asking for an example
  4. It is not a request to participate.
  5. Mark the instances of group members asking for clarification in the transcript with the letters "CL."
  6. Count the number of times each person asked for clarifications and enter that number in column 2 of Table D.
  7. Total column 2 and use the total to calculate percentages in column 3.
