Beaverlodge Elementary - Portable Flooring & Hallway
Capital Facilities Projects Capital facilities projects reported by schools are listed below. Beaverlodge Elementary School The School and community of Beaverlodge completed a playground renovation program. This involved volunteer labour, donations and matching grants. Eaglesham School Renovations are almost complete. The library underwent some physical changes beginning last April to facilitate the move over to an automated library system using the L4U program. The main office was gutted, new lighting , work stations, storage cupboards, windows and P.A. system installed. The area is now quite spacious, bright and much more accessible to students and the public. Elmworth School 1. Elmworth School
became the proud owner of a brand new playground this past year. The school
and community were able to raise over thirty thousand dollars for this
well needed project. At the work bee former students and parents of future
students all joined together to pitch in.
Harry Balfour Classroom space is at a premium with current enrollment being accommodated by converting one science lab, a storage room and the art room into regular classrooms; the stage has been walled off and is used as a classroom; two rooms at Avondale School are currently being rented from the Grande Prairie School District; and two additional storage rooms have been converted for use as a counseling office and speech pathology room. There is insufficient space to allow the development of enough computer lab space to properly implement the Information and Communication curriculum. Additionally there is no dedicated art facility making the maintenance/ establishment of art programs in upper elementary/junior high problematic. Hythe Elementary School New linoleum in classrooms
La Glace School The year also saw a number of changes to the physical plant. When classes started in September, the library/computer room upgrades had been completed. During the term a number of other changes were made. A pipe leak in the grade 7/8 classroom resulted in new millwork. Our band room was completely renovated (less millwork). The student walkway along the west side was paved in the spring, greatly improving the cleanliness of the the hallways. Near the end of the term renovations began on the special education room and quiet/test rooms. Sexsmith Elementary Once again this past year Sexsmith Elementary School experienced space problems. The grade one classes started the year with high numbers and increased as the year progressed. As a result, the classes were split into three classes after Christmas. The only available room was the music room and this ended up being where the new grade one class was housed. This was quite disruptive to the music and drama programs for the second year in a row, and with the enrolment we will have for the 2000-2001 year, we will not have a music/drama room available, once again. Finally, the school has successfully completed the purchase and installation of a very large piece of playground equipment. The total cost of this project was over $60,000. Half of these funds came through the County Facility Enhancement program. Additional financial support came from various community organizations, including the Elks, Royal Purple, and Legion. Sexsmith Secondary School • Completed the installation
of high-speed network to each classroom. Ready for fiber optic cable.
Spirit River Elementary School Completion of asphalt basketball
court with Map of Canada painted on it. Completion of painted
mural depicting that "SRE is for All of Us" on the outside east wall for
our Millennium Project.
Teepee Creek School New flooring has been added to the junior high room this year, improving spirit and improved morale. The lockers were also relocated, improving access to the science supplies. The computer lab has greatly increased the use of the lab.
