Eaglesham School

We are happy to report that renovations are almost complete. Our library underwent some physical changes beginning last April in order that we could facilitate our move over to an automated library system using the L4U program. The main office was gutted, new lighting , work stations, storage cupboards, windows and P.A. system installed. The area is now quite spacious, bright and much more accessible to students and the public.

The student lounge, canteen and shower rooms are finished  all that remains is for furniture to be purchased.

Hallways are clean and bright with new floor covering throughout the three wings  what a transformation everywhere seems bigger, more open, fresh smelling and clean.

The staffroom is also bigger and brighter  big enough to hold staff meetings. Our second computer room is also well under way (This will be an ongoing project to be completed as funds allow, which has enabled us to offer additional courses to High school students through Peace Wapiti's Virtual Education Program.

During the past year our High School students performed well at the Diploma level. Success rates were as follows .... English 30 ..100%; Biology 30 ...92%; Social Studies 30 ...90%; Chemistry 30..82%. At the same time the vast majority of our Grade 3, 6, and 9 students performed at or above the Acceptable level of achievement for the province on the Provincial achievement tests.

At Eaglesham School we are all proud of the accomplishments of Pauline Trudell... our top academic student for the year, 1999/2000  Valedictorian, Rutherford Scholarship winner, Governor Generals Medal Winner, Peace Wapiti Scholarship
Recipient, GPRC Scholarship recipient (Tuition for the Year.) We wish her much success in her studies.

Our school sports teams acquitted themselves well during the course of the year with our Junior High Boys volleyball team excelling at their particular level winning the Little Red Tournament. The girls' Senior Golf team won the zones and
progressed to the Provincials at Goose Hummock and Red Water... finishing with a Bronze Medal.

Two exchange students spent the year at Eaglesham School and achieved at a high academic level. Suzanne Burri from Switzerland and Christina Zimmermaan from Germany. They performed well at school and were involved in the community and showed that they were very fine representatives from their schools and their countries.

Our graduating class of 2000 planned ahead throughout their high school years for a European Trip at Easter 2000. They worked diligently and raised the sum of 27,000 dollars to pay for this venture. London, Paris and Rome in two weeks... they learned a lot and had a great time in the process... a great group of students who set an example to the rest of the school.

At the end of the school year we received a further 10 computers from "Computers for Schools". That brings our total to 87 computers in the school . .... almost one per two pupils. Each classroom has at least one computer, Kindergarten has three (Touch screens) Library 5.

The school underwent a school evaluation conducted by Mr. John Hogarth. A very worthwhile exercise especially when the Science assessment ran simultaneously. The staff learned a lot about all of the programs being offered from kindergarten
to grade 12,  achievements at the various age levels, extracurricular activities,  budgeting and accounting, administration etc. Outcomes were very positive and we were all reassured that there are many good things going on at the school, that students are achieving academically and in the areas of extracurricular activities. Recommendations for improvement will also help us establish goals, plan our course and set direction for the future.
