Elmworth School Accomplishments for 1999/2000

Academic Programs:

1.Elmworth School has continued to set high standards with its academic programs. We, as a staff and as a community, have continued to look for the best ways to educate our students. This past year our students were familiarized to a new language arts program as developed by Betty Weibe. We look forward to using this program in all grades and across the curriculum in the years ahead to further our belief in the need to have our students be strong efficient communicators.
2. The school continued to use the Metra program at the grade one and two level. This program has been successful in increasing our grade level readers in these grades.
3.We continued this past year to offer enrichment programs to those students who excelled in certain areas of the curriculum. It is our hope to continue this program into the coming years.
4. We introduced this past year a reading program where the entire school would join together and spend time in quality reading. The program was a success, as the library became a more focal point of the school.

Facility:

1.  Elmworth School became the proud owner of a brand new playground this past year. The school and community were able to raise over thirty thousand dollars for this well needed project. At the work bee former students and parents of future students all joined together to pitch in.
2.  Our library continued to be a priority this past year as we attempted to ensure that it fit into our students needs.
3.  Our computer lab received an extensive overhaul in preparation for the technology needs of our teachers and students. All of our classrooms and the library were wired for the Internet as we endeavor to use this medium in our daily curriculum.

Community Relations:

The staff continued to work at developing strong relationships with our community. We piloted an open report format whereby early in the school year we had the parents attend parent teacher interviews. This proved to be a valuable resource for our teachers and set the year off on a positive note. We also instituted an open house in September where the community toured the school and had an opportunity to meet with the staff. The School Council remains a valuable advisory group. They have been involved in several fundraising events that have resulted in donations to the school for additional programming and supplementing extra/curricular events.

Professional Development:

Staff at Elmworth have been involved in many forms of professional development. Our teacher aides were able to spend a day in Edmonton attending a conference to further extend their skills. We take pride in offering equal access for all of our staff towards professional development. Our school was able to access close to four thousand dollars worth for the furthering of their professional goals
