Corresponding Peace Wapiti School Board Goals:

• Plan and implement strategies to deal with the ongoing need for technology.
• Provide alternative educational delivery models to support regular instruction where appropriate. 

Results Reported:

Although 82.82% of parents are satisfied with their children's skills in computers, students do not show the same high level of satisfaction.  Grade 12 students report 64.81% satisfaction with their computer skills. Asked how much high school is improving their computer skills, 15.38% indicate "a lot," 37.79% say "some," and 23.98% claim "very little."  Only 62.23% think computers are being used enough in courses they take. Information technology is integrated into education to enhance student learning and increase efficiency and flexibility of delivery. In terms of performance measures:

• All students in grades 3-12 have access to computers for word processing. The sophistication of skills increases with the grade level.
• All of the schools have Internet connections. The number of students that can be served at any given time varies from a small number to as high as 20 students. Schools are continuing to explore ways of improving accessibility.
• The ratio of modern computers to students is at approximately 9 to 1. If all instructional computers purchased within the last five years and included in the calculation, the ratio of computers to students is at approximately 6 to 1. 

With respect to board strategies related to this goal:

• A three-year planned for the use of technology was completed and forwarded to Alberta education and is currently in the process of being implemented. 
• Plans for upgrading staff skills in the use of technology are in place, including the use of the expertise of our Director of Instructional Technology services. Staff inservice continues to be a priority.
• A virtual school has been operating in the school jurisdiction since September 1, 1997.
